What’s Happening at ACEC Ohio

Beth EasterdayAs the new year at ACEC Ohio gets started, I am excited to share an update on what has been happening since I became Executive Director on July 1, 2016. I have been busy introducing myself to key state agency directors and legislators including Craig Butler, OEPA Director; Jerry Wray, ODOT Director; Dave Williamson, OFCC Director. In addition, meetings are scheduled over the next month with key legislative leaders of both the Ohio House of Representatives and the Ohio Senate as well as John Greenhalge of the Ohio State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Surveyors.

NEW HIRE
ACEC Ohio has another new face, besides myself. I have hired Aimee Rupert as our newly created communication-membership specialist (see separate news article) restructuring Cindy Mader’s position since she retired on July 31, 2016. Aimee started on August 1 and brings a wealth of experience to this new role. I look forward to you working with her on our communication and membership initiatives.

COMMITTEES & COMMUNICATIONS
Committees have taken shape led by a great set of Committee Chairs ready to kick off this year with work plans and committee rosters. The chairmen are listed on our website. If you missed volunteering for a committee, just let us know and you can still sign up. As part of the new Communications Committee, ACEC Ohio just completed a communication survey and I encourage you to review the results provided in the separate news article. ACEC Ohio can now be found on LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter and you can visit all sites through our website as well as view our Twitter feed. Please consider “liking” or “following” ACEC Ohio.

LONG RANGE STRATEGIC PLAN
In September, ACEC Ohio will create a long range strategic plan. Under the leadership of our new Board President Mike Duffey and Vice President Fred Seling, a committee of 13 ACEC Ohio members will convene on September 29, 2016 to explore where ACEC Ohio has been, determine what we do well and what we could do better, and will formulate initiatives we want to move forward over the next 3-5 years.

ENGINEERING EXCELLENCE AWARDS COMPETITION
Planning is also underway for the Engineering Excellence Awards (EEA) competition with new promotional ideas taking shape and discussion of revamping the luncheon program on March 9, 2017. The EEA celebrate outstanding achievements across all engineering disciplines, consider submitting your project(s) this year. The guidelines can be found on our website.

SAVE THE DATES
In addition, the ODOT/ACEC Partnering Conference Committee will be meeting soon, the conference is scheduled for June 14, 2017 at the Ohio Union. And finally, the Annual Meeting program and location are being formulated with a tentative date of June 15, 2017.

Feel free to call or email me if you have any questions about ACEC Ohio. I look forward to a very exciting and transformational year.
