Duperrieu, Steve Interview

1)      What is the “long term” purpose of AFT?

As we consider the rapid pace in which technology is shaping the world around us, the importance of organizations like AFT is critical not only to our industry, but also to the U.S. financial services sector. AFT offers fintech providers an open, non-competitive atmosphere in which we can collaborate on the most pressing issues facing the industry. Facilitating this level of communication allows AFT to influence the industry’s ability to meet evolving expectations. So, our long-term purpose is to foster collaboration among providers, deliver networking opportunities for executives and offer professional development for our members.

2)      How does/should AFT membership have a positive impact for the member companies?

Collaboration among the AFT membership strengthens our businesses both individually and collectively. The entire gamut of AFT services—networking opportunities, channel partnerships, industry education and professional development—gives member companies varying opportunities to engage in activities the can improve the service and technology offerings they provide. What’s more, through these activities, AFT provides an environment for collaboration and enrichment that results in an overall stronger financial services technology industry in the U.S.

3)            How does/should the AFT Board facilitate your stated purpose (1) and positive impact for member companies (2)?

To me, the board “leads the charge” by modeling collaboration and thinking strategically about how we foster the development of both our industry and our members. The tactics in which the board accomplishes this is by offering best-in-class events with thought-provoking content and ample networking opportunities. We also have to focus on recruiting new companies in order to broaden the perspective of the organization, as well as encouraging member companies to be active participants. The board’s role is to be active, engaged and encouraging, setting the tone for the organization and its membership.

4)            Why are you a good candidate to serve on the AFT Board?

I believe strongly in the mission of AFT—my participation has benefited me greatly during my 15-year career in fintech—and I would like to leverage my experiences to make AFT an even stronger organization. That said, I have been an active attendee for the past five years; so, I have a solid understanding of its goals, members, events and operations. Additionally, I’ve spent 15 years as a leader within the industry, working with CSI and Fi-DATA, and have facilitated many industry partnerships with various AFT members.
