FDIC Considering Further Call Report Training

The FDIC is considering further training sessions for call report preparers, FDIC Chairman Martin Gruenberg said at yesterday’s FDIC Advisory Committee on Community Banking meeting.

Gruenberg’s remarks came in response from committee member complaints about the burden of preparing and submitting the quarterly call report. FDIC staff also indicated that they would be interested in proposals to streamline certain call report schedules.

Also at the meeting, committee members welcomed the recent guidance concerning dividend exceptions for Subchapter S banks from the Basel III capital conservation buffer, but had a number of questions about the recent Financial Institution Letter concerning prudent management of agricultural credits.

The meeting also featured discussions over recent supervisory guidance concerning call reports and ag lending, how the FDIC is monitoring real estate concentrations, the Economic Growth and Regulatory Paperwork Reduction Act review of FDIC regulations, and minority depository institutions. The next committee meeting will be in November.
