Marlene Alexander

Organist/Chancel Choir and Adult Bells Director

Staff Photos    Marlene came to Bethel Church in ‘76 when she was employed as Director of Music. Her parents were members of Bethel previously and her mother was the first Director of Bethel Preschool. Presently, Marlene is the Director of Traditional Music with the responsibilities of Chancel Choir, Organist, and Bell Choir. She has also directed several Children’s Choirs, Vacation Bible School, and Arts’ Camps for Bethel.

    Marlene has taught music in Ohio Schools for 36 years in the districts of Cleveland, Lakewood, Medina, Warrensville Heights, and most recently, London City Schools from where she retired in 2000. She graduated in Music Education with majors in voice and piano from Muskingum University in New Concord. Her Masters’ work was done at Akron University in Education. She has also taught piano and voice privately for many years.

    Marlene has performed as a soloist with the Lakewood Light Opera Company and the Medina County Chorus. She has been a member of the Cleveland Orchestra Chorus under Robert Shaw and Robert Paige and with the Columbus Orchestra Chorus with James Gallagher. She has accompanied, coached, and directed many high school musicals and directed the orchestra for the Madison County Performing Arts Group. She has four adult children: Denise, Kelly, Todd and Susan; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Her hobbies include reading, writing, cross-stitching, cooking, traveling, and mostly being with family.
