CSCA 2017 Call for Papers Reminder: Adjunct/Temporary Faculty Caucus

Call for Submissions – 2017 Central States Communication Association Conference

Hyatt Regency
Minneapolis, Minnesota

Create

March 16 – March 18, 2017

The Adjunct/Temporary Faculty Caucus invites all members of CSCA – full-time, tenured, adjunct, temporary, or any other affiliation – to submit papers, panels, roundtable discussions, and other innovative programming to be considered for inclusion at the 2017 CSCA convention in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Our interest group focuses on issues related to temporary, non-tenure track, and adjunct faculty. Our group includes adjunct and temporary faculty as well as colleagues, administrators and full time/tenure track faculty with an interest in the treatment, contributions, and assimilation of adjuncts and temporary faculty.

We welcome a range of topics encompassing adjunct and temporary faculty, and we look forward to stimulating discussions. We encourage submissions that relate to the broad conference theme of Create. Some possible topics include: creating relationships between adjuncts, full-time faculty, and administrators (including department or division chairs), creating funding for temporary faculty, creating more secure positions for temporary faculty, creating a strong financial standing for adjuncts, creating assessments and training for temporary faculty, creating a new schedule (dealing with the uncertainties of adjunct scheduling), and creating greener grass – Unions and temporary faculty. The Adjunct/Temporary Interest Group will provide a day pass to the CSCA conference for any speaker from a union.

We also encourage submissions that create knowledge, for example: understanding how adjuncts fit financially into different institutions, understanding instructors: the differences between part-time, adjunct and TA/GA instructors, and understanding how institutions view adjuncts. Preference will be given to panels including members from a variety of institutions rather than a single institution.

Drawing: The Temporary/Adjunct Faculty Interest Group will award a special gift to one of its participants through a drawing. All participating panelists, presenters, and attendees at panels and the business meeting will be included in the drawing.

Guidelines for Submission

Panels: Individuals proposing panels must complete the 2017 CSCA Special Panel Proposal Request Form available at the CSCA website. Panel submissions must also include the following: (a) title, (b) abstract and (c) a complete list of participants along with their institutional affiliations and contact information (address, e-mail, and telephone). Please indicate if presenters are CSCA members.

Other Programming: If you are submitting another type of innovative programming, please include (a) title, (b) abstract that also explains the programming you propose and (c) a complete list of participants along with their institutional affiliations and contact information (address, e-mail, and telephone).

Papers: If you do submit a paper, that’s fantastic! Remember that only completed papers will be accepted. Papers must conform to APA standards and include a title page that is a separate document from the paper, allowing author identity to be concealed. Remove all author references in the text of the paper and in the properties of the paper. Please indicate if author(s) are CSCA members.

All submissions must be sent as e-mail attachments using Microsoft Word format.

An e-mail acknowledging the receipt of the paper or panel submissions will be sent for each submission. All media requests must be made at the time of submission. Please only request media if it is absolutely essential to your presentation, as media requests will be closely examined before approval. Laptop computers will not be made available for presentations.

Your submission implies that you agree to follow appropriate presentation guidelines if your paper/panel is accepted (i.e., it is generally unacceptable to read your paper to those in attendance).

Submissions must be received by October 3, 2016

Send submissions electronically in Microsoft Word format to:
