“Communication the Possible”: Transformative Communication

April 2 - April 7, 2013

The Instructional Resources Interest Group welcomes submissions of papers and panel proposals for the 2013 CSCA Conference. Any topic related to instructional resources, including all forms of technology, assessment, and instructional ideas, is welcomed; however, we encourage submissions that focus on the convention theme. More specifically to the theme, there is strong encouragement toward submissions that consider exploring the capacity for emotion, creativity, compassion, hope, forgiveness, resilience, and transcendence in regards to communication. Additionally, we strongly encourage undergraduate and graduate student papers. A wide range of topics are welcomed, although suggested topics include progressive ideas with the usage of technology for and within instruction, understanding and communicating with newer technology such as Skype, video conferencing, instant- streaming tools, apps/software/hardware intended to enhance and facilitate collaborative student-to-student and student-instructor interactions, film and media samples and tools to foster compassion and emotional student engagement, technology usage in or as speaker labs, advantages and disadvantages of student and instructor use of tablet vs. pc platform tools, disruptions and incivility possibilities with technology in the classroom, opening opportunities for student empowerment/expression/creativity with critical communication literacy and social network use, instructor adoption/education/utilization of mediated platform, confidential student-to-instructor blogging as a modality to create and facilitate critical and compassionate dialogue, live twitter feeds for immediate student feedback in the classroom, using online classrooms as a means to ease anxiety for students in life transitions, collaborative practices of communication between campus programs for student needs, and other topics related to instructional resources.

A variety of formats are also welcome, including competitive paper panels, roundtable discussions, spotlight sessions, dialogue sessions, research café or breakfast nooks, senior/junior scholars, and research sessions. In anticipation of the conference theme, we strongly encourage (and enjoy!) the submission of panels that are co-sponsored with other CSCA units.
