CSCA - Basic Course IG - REMINDER - 2013 Call for Papers - Deadline October 5th!
BASIC COURSE INTEREST GROUP
Hello, Basic Course Interest Group members. Hope everyone’s Fall semester/term is off to a great start. I also wanted to remind you that only one month remains for submitting panels or papers to CSCA. The Basic Course Interest Group invites all members of CSCA to submit competitive papers and panels to be considered for programming at the 2013 CSCA convention in Kansas City which will be held April 2 – April 7, 2013.
We welcome a range of topics encompassing the basic course. We especially encourage members to develop roundtable discussions, dialogue sessions, debates, and spotlight sessions related to the convention theme (Communicating the Possible). Possible topics for papers and panels include: different ways to develop critical thinking skills, different courses to fulfill general education requirements, project based learning ideas, forgiveness and interpersonal interaction in the hybrid course, community college partnerships as relates to general education, transfer issues related to the basic course, social media instruction in the basic course, and the basic course as a gateway to the major. I’d love to see some of these topics become panels at this year’s conference, so let me know if I can be of assistance in developing specific panels related to the topic list above. In light of the conference theme, we strongly encourage the submission of panels that are co-sponsored with other CSCA units.
Awards: The Basic Course Interest Group presents two awards. The Doug Trank Award is presented to the top rated paper and includes a $50.00 prize and a certificate. The Melissa Beall Award is presented to the top rated Panel or Roundtable Discussion and also includes a $50.00 prize and a certificate.
Guidelines for Submission
Papers: Only completed papers will be accepted. Papers must conform to APA standards and include a title page that is a separate document from the paper, allowing author identity to be concealed. Remove all author references in the text of the paper and in the properties of the paper. Students (including graduate students) should type "STUDENT" on the upper right-hand corner of the title page. Indicate if author(s) is/are CSCA members.
Panels: Individuals proposing panels must complete the 2013 CSCA Special Panel Proposal Request Form available at the CSCA website. Panel submissions must also include the following: (a) title, (b) abstract, and (c) a complete list of participants along with their institutional affiliations and contact information (address, e-mail, and telephone).
All submissions must be sent as e-mail attachments using Microsoft Word format. Documents not sent in this format will be returned to the sender. An e-mail acknowledging the receipt of the paper or panel submissions will be sent for each submission. All media requests must be made at the time of submission. Please only request media if it is absolutely essential to your presentation, as media requests will be closely examined before approval. Laptop computers will not be made available for presentations. Your submission implies that you agree to follow appropriate presentation guidelines if your paper/panel is accepted (i.e., it is generally unacceptable to read your paper to those in attendance).
Submissions must be received by October 5, 2012.
