CSCA 2013 Convention - Graduate Student Caucus Meeting

We are just a few days away for “Communicating the Possible” in Kansas City. As you start thinking about CSCA, I wanted to write to encourage you all to get involved in leadership positions at CSCA. As I was thinking about the conference this morning, it occurred to me that #CSCA13 will mark my ten years anniversary from graduating with the Ph.D. from the University of Kansas. In the next decade, many of you will take leadership positions in CSCA. My convention theme as “Communicating the Possible” is about exploring the future of our discipline. What can we become? What can we do to help the world with communication? What’s next for CSCA?

You are. You will be the ones that can take what is “possible” and make it “actual.”

Your energy, insights, and motivations are what will drive CSCA into the future. Your research ideas and teaching innovations will change the discipline.

Towards this end, I created two panels that I want to encourage you all to attend. These panels feature Past Presidents of CSCA who will speak about what they believe is possible for communication. They all have a tremendous history of guiding graduate students and shaping the field and CSCA. I am so excited to hear them speak and I hope you will join me. You can find these panels under 2302 (Friday 11am) and under 3306 (Saturday 11am).

As you think about #CSCA13, I want you to consider getting involved. Attend the Graduate Student Caucus meeting. Go to any business meetings that interest you. Volunteer to read papers, review panels, or run for an office.

I hope to see you in Kansas City and look forward to your ideas.
