CSCA 2014 - Organizational and Professional Communication Interest Group Call for Papers/Reviewers

Dear Organizational and Professional Communication Members,

I hope you are well! Just a reminder to be sure to be developing papers and panel ideas for submission to the CSCA 2014 conference. The deadline for submissions is October 4, 2013-- just under two months away! Below is the call for papers. I'll also be posting the call on CRTNET soon.

One last thing: if you were not at the business meeting at CSCA 2013 and would like to sign up to be a paper reviewer, please let me know by emailing me at jeremyfyke@gmail.com. I am in need of additional reviewers and I appreciate the help!

Call for Papers:

The Organizational and Professional Communication Interest group welcomes submissions of papers and panel proposals for the 2014 CSCA Conference. Any topic related to organizational and professional communication is welcomed; however, we encourage submissions that focus on the convention theme, “Elevate.”  The theme of Elevate invites members to submit papers and panels that focus on using research, teaching, service, and practice to elevate our understanding of communication. As an interest group we can demonstrate how research in organizational settings promotes, develops, and elevates important societal issues. Possible topics include ethical issues in organizations, social class, communication and positive organizational processes/outcomes, elevating leadership and possibilities for leadership research, engagement with local communities, and applied scholarship (e.g., elevating the efforts of local non-profits through teaching and research). Papers and/or panel ideas could also highlight important issues for researchers such as censorship and academic freedom. Finally, we could explore possibilities for elevating professional development and mentoring of graduate students. We encourage panel ideas that bridge interest groups/disciplines in ways that elevate possibilities for research and practices. For example, the above ideas could bridge our interest group with Ethics and Freedom of Speech, Communication Theory, or Graduate Student Caucus.

The division is interested in celebrating our strong scholarship and suggesting new directions/outlets for our scholarship and teaching. As a result, we encourage competitive paper submissions from both new and established scholars, as well as students. Planners are interested in all types of formats including: traditional panels, roundtable discussions, and working research sessions. We are especially interested in interactive formats such as performances or debates that draw the audience into conversation about elevating the study and practice of organizational communication.

  Guidelines for Submission:

1. Please note the following directions for paper and panel proposals:

Competitive Papers must conform to APA standards.  No identifying information should be included in the body of the paper. Papers must be submitted via the email address provided below in Word Format 2003. Email submissions should include a title page as a separate document, allowing author identity to be concealed. Title pages should include: title, institutional affiliation, address(es) of author(s), phone/email address(es)); and should also indicate/include:  1) whether the author is a CSCA member, 2) if submitter has not presented at a CSCA conference and, 3) the notation “STUDENT” in the upper right-hand corner if the submitter is a graduate or undergraduate student. The interest group will recognize the "Top Paper" and the "Top Student Paper."

Panel proposals need: a) a title, b) a rationale statement and description of the program, including format—roundtable, paper session, debate, c) name of person responsible for the program, d) as well as names, institutional affiliations, addresses, phone numbers, and email addresses of each panel participant, and e) a 200-word abstract for each paper or explanation of each participant’s purpose/perspective. Indicate if participants are CSCA members. Panels must be submitted electronically in Word 2003 and use the “Panel Proposal Form” that can found on the CSCA website by following the “Convention” then “Call for Papers” tabs.

 2. As the availability of AV equipment is limited, all requests for AV equipment must be included with paper and panel submissions. Please indicate your AV requests in the text of your submission email.

3. Submit all papers and panel proposals as a MICROSOFT WORD 2003 document. If it is a panel proposal, be sure to use the 2014 CSCA Panel Proposal Request Form found on the CSCA website, and include this form as a separate attachment. DEADLINE FOR ALL SUBMISSIONS is Friday October 4, 2013.

Send your submissions to: Jeremy Fyke at CSCAOrgComm@gmail.com . If you have questions in the meantime, email Jeremy at jeremyfyke@gmail.com.
