CSCA Group Bylaws Announcement

This message is to inform you about important information regarding all Interest Groups, Caucuses, and Sections of the Central States Communication Association.

According to the Association’s constitution, all Interest Groups, Caucuses, and Sections must have bylaws consistent with the Association’s constitution, approved by the Executive Committee, and posted online. However, a survey has uncovered that many groups do not have bylaws in place and that many of the bylaws that are in place are inconsistent. Accordingly, in order to remain a group within the Association and in order to receive slots at upcoming conventions, it will be necessary for all Interest Groups, Caucuses, and Sections to either revise or construct proper bylaws.

Fortunately, the Executive Committee has developed procedures to enable all groups to have proper bylaws in place immediately following the 2014 conference in Minneapolis.

We will be working with the leaders of each group so that proposed bylaws are developed for review by the membership of each group on March 6, 2014. The membership of each group will then have an opportunity to respond to these proposed bylaws and offer suggestions to the group leadership. Modified proposed bylaws will then be sent to the group membership on March 27, 2014. During each group’s business meeting at the annual conference, members will have a final opportunity to discuss and modify these bylaws prior to approving their final form at the meeting.

Specific guidelines and procedures will be provided to group leadership, and all members of the Association will receive periodic updates and reminders. However, if you have any questions about the process, please feel free to contact Second Vice President David T. McMahan (mcmahan.csca@gmail.com) for additional information.

Having proper bylaws in place will ensure that all groups are in compliance with the constitution. It will also ensure that the Association will continue to be strengthened and that the experience of its membership will continue to be enhanced.

Thank you in advance for your hard work and thoughtful consideration throughout this important process and time in the Association’s history.
