Assistant Professor, Communication Studies

The Department of Communication Studies at the State University of New York, College at Plattsburgh announces the opening of a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor position, effective August 2015. The successful candidate will be committed to excellence in teaching and service in an institution dedicated primarily to undergraduate education. He or she will be expected to demonstrate an understanding of and sensitivity to diversity and gender issues, as SUNY Plattsburgh is committed to ensuring that its graduates are educated to succeed in an increasingly complex, multicultural, and interdependent world.

The ideal candidate will have a commitment to bridging theory with practice and will have expertise in teaching one or more of the following areas: Social Interaction, Social Media and New Technology, Strategic and Corporate Communication, Health Communication, Public Discourse and Political Communication.

Responsibilities Include: Teaching from among the following courses: Health Communication, Political Communication, Communication Theory, and Research Methods in Communication. Duties include being an active scholar, advising students, and service to the department and university. Opportunities to teach courses in successful applicant’s area of interest available. The successful candidate may be asked to teach courses in a distance learning format.

Required Qualifications: Ph.D. in Communication Studies, Media Studies or related field; ability to teach existing courses offered by the department; ability to develop specialty courses to complement and develop existing programs in the department.

Preferred Qualifications: Professional experience and/or expertise in multimedia, web and online teaching is advantageous.
