The Department of Communication and Journalism invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position in Speech and Interpersonal Communication at the rank of Assistant Professor I starting September 2011. Applicants must possess or be near completion of the Ph.D. Experience working with diverse and/or multicultural populations is also highly desirable.
The successful candidate is expected to maintain excellence in undergraduate student-centered teaching. Teaching responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, Public Speaking, Advanced Public Speaking, and Business Communication. In addition, the candidate will have the opportunity to teach such courses as Theories of Persuasion, Argumentation and Debate, and Voice and Articulation. The teaching load is 18 contact hours a year (typically, three courses a semester). Faculty responsibilities also include participating in student advising, engaging in scholarly activity and providing service to the Department, College and University.
The rapidly growing department with an eye toward digital convergence offers both a major in Journalism (tracks in News-Editorial and Public Relations) and in Communication (tracks in Interpersonal and Speech Communication, Radio and Television Communication, and Multimedia and Web Design).
