Assistant Professor of Communications Media

The Positions: The Department of Communications Media at Indiana University of Pennsylvania; a large, growing, and collegial department; invites applications for three full-time tenure-track faculty position(s) at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin Fall 2013. These vacancies are due to recent faculty retirements and the expansion of departmental programs.

The department is searching for dynamic teacher/scholars in the following specialty areas.

  • Specialty 1: TV/Video
    The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching courses related to video editing & production, news, and broadcasting. Additionally, this individual will be responsible for supervising the department's student-operated cable television facility, IUP-TV as one quarter of the assigned teaching load.
  • Specialty 2: Digital Imagery
    The successful candidate will teach courses related to digital imagery including graphic design, digital photography, and multimedia design.
  • Specialty 3: Media Relations/Mass Communication
    The successful candidate will teach courses related to media relations, mass communication, and promotions.
  • Specialty 4: Audio Production
    The successful candidate will teach courses related to audio production with a focus on music recording and audio/radio theater and will be familiar with teaching in and utilizing advanced audio production facilities.
  • Specialty 5: Games/Simulation/Animation Production
    The successful candidate will teach courses related to the design and production of 2D & 3D games, simulations, and animations. This person should be familiar with and utilizing advanced software, such as Maya, and teaching in and utilizing advanced production facilities including a motion capture lab.

In addition to one of the specialties described above, highly sought after candidates may indicate a willingness to supervise the department's summer internship program which includes specific course assignments and time to manage the program as part of the teaching load.

Qualifications: The successful candidates, without exception, must have an earned doctorate in communications or related field at the time of appointment. Highly sought-after candidates will possess a combination of teaching and professional expertise including production where appropriate. Additionally, a record of scholarship and service is preferred. Professional experience will also be taken into consideration. Preliminary interviews may include phone or Skype calls. The candidates must communicate effectively and perform well during the interview process, which will include a teaching demonstration. All applicants must be work eligible and may be assigned to provide instruction through distance education.

Responsibilities: Applicants should be prepared to teach courses at the undergraduate, master's and doctoral levels, supervise doctoral dissertations and research, advise undergraduate students, and engage in departmental and university service.
