107th Annual ECA Convention
Baltimore, Maryland
Wednesday, March 30, 2016-Sunday, April 3, 2016

Convention Theme:

[R]evolution

(the following is taken from the convention website: http://www.ecasite.org/aws/ECA/pt/sp/p_convention_papers)

Although Baltimore, MD, is not known for events during the Revolutionary War, the city was critical to the success of the 13 Colonies’ freedom. . . Of course, Baltimore is more famous for a different battle during the War of 1812. Prior to the Battle of Baltimore, Maj. George Armistead asked for a flag so big that the British would have no trouble seeing it fly above Ft. McHenry. While attempting to negotiate the release of a local physician, Francis Scott Key was held captive off the coast during the Battle of Fort McHenry. When he woke the next morning, he could see that “the flag was still there.” At this sight, he was uniquely inspired to write the beginnings of what would become the U.S. National Anthem.

Although the Revolutionary war helped spur on the creation of the United States of America, the War of 1812 was equally important in how the U.S. evolved in its sense of national pride and unity. Following in the spirit of these [r]evolutionary events, submissions are invited for collaborative consideration about [R]evolution in the communication discipline. Are the field, our scholarship, and our teaching best served by a series of slow, incremental changes, or is it time to promote radical, pervasive overthrow of the status quo?

The Theory and Methodology Interest Group invites submissions of competitive papers, panel/program proposals, and innovative programming alternatives (e.g., symposia, debates, open forums, workshop, roundtables, community programs) for the 107th Annual ECA Convention in Baltimore, MD. Since the theme is [R]evolution, thecall for submissions to the 107th annual ECA convention is inspired by this revolutionary spirit as it relates to theory and methodology in the communication discipline.

In keeping with this theme, we ask you to consider alternative programs, panels, and papers that question and reflect on our research processes, our theoretical foundations, and our goals as scholars. What new theoretical and methodological traditions must be considered? How can we breathe new life into routine theoretical and methodological approaches?

Submissions should be sent via email to the interest group planner, Annette M. Holba, at aholba@plymouth.edu. All submissions must be received by October 15, 2015 in order to be considered. Acceptance of a paper, panel, or program proposal obligates authors and/or presenters to attend the conference and present the paper.

Submission Guidelines for Completed Papers
Completed papers should be no more 25 pages in length (excluding title page, abstract, references, and tables). Please submit completed manuscripts as MS Word files. Papers should be written in accordance with APA 6th edition.
