2016 Presentations

ECA's 2016 Convention included a new program that advocates the inclusion of contemporary advancements in first- and second-year communication course content: Listening, Deliberation and Dialogue, Communication Ethics, and Media and Mediated Communication. Two of these topics—Listening and Communication Ethics—have moved beyond what is often a routine, but outmoded approach in both content and instruction. The other two topics—Deliberation and Dialogue and Media and Mediated Communication—have emerged as contemporary, research-based practices worthy of inclusions in introductory courses. This special event invited first- and second-year course instructors, directors, and researchers to learn more about the ways in which a more contemporary approach to these topics better serves the interests and needs of college students. The program featured advancements in theories and research, instructional methodologies for teaching those concepts, and philosophies and strategies for assessing that learning.

Many of the presenters have resources that they would like to share with participants via this website.
