We are pleased to invite you to attend and present at the 7th annual James C. McCroskey and Virginia P. Richmond Undergraduate Scholars Conference (USC) to be held concurrently with the Eastern Communication Association’s 108th annual convention in Boston, Massachusetts, March 29 - April 2, 2017. USCE sessions are typically scheduled from Thursday through Saturday. The USC will center on the ECA convention theme, Freedom To … Freedom From…, and should focus on the following questions: What does communication give us the freedom to do? What does it give us freedom from? What are the uses and abuses of free communication? When have others used their freedom to communicate to prevent violation of freedom from other forces? And, when have we used the freedom to communicate to gain freedom from these forces?
The USC conference will feature some of the best research from undergraduate communication students. All submissions will be blind and peer-reviewed. Student are limited to 2 different submissions.
Submission Options (students may have up to two submissions):
- Competitive Paper Presentations-This is recommended for finished papers of no more than 20 pages. These submissions will be formal presentations where the authors explain their research in a 10 minute oral presentation. In this presentation format, 3 or 4 papers will be presented together containing a general theme that links the papers together. Furthermore, these presentations will be followed by a response from a top-scholar in the field of communication.
- Panel Discussions-This is recommended for topics/issues that adopt a timely communication issue or convention theme where discussion is more appropriate by several authors (preferable from different institutions).
- Poster Presentations-This is recommended for research in progress seeking input or for projects that would benefit from a visual display. Posters are required, but presentations can include digital displays on laptops or tablets as a supplement. The posters should be able to stand alone in case the digital display fails.
Faculty, please begin to think about your students’ work that may apply to the convention theme and could fit into one of the submission options so that you can submit this work on or before December 10th 2016. Students, think about the opportunity to interact with your peers and communication professionals at a regional communication conference.
