Making a Difference

Call for Papers and Panels
Intercultural Communication Interest Group

Deadline for Submission: October 15, 2007

The Intercultural Communication Interest Group of the Eastern Communication Association invites submissions of papers, program proposals, and round-table discussions for the 99th annual ECA Convention in Pittsburgh, PA. The convention theme, “Making a Difference” encourages us to find ways to connect through our scholarship, teaching and service to make a difference within and beyond our classrooms and communities. This theme resonates very well with the purpose of the Intercultural Communication Interest Group which is “to promote ethical study, criticism, research and teaching of intercultural communication as it manifests across diverse contexts to facilitate shared meaning among cultural communities.”

The 2008 theme blends seamlessly with the spirit of intercultural communication scholarship on multiple levels. Our field finds its analytical space in understanding the histories and contexts influencing tensions in cross-cultural interactions. In turn, such understanding fosters the development of shared meanings between cultures and communities. Given that this theme speaks so clearly to intercultural communication, submissions that are imaginative, innovative, and interdisciplinary are encouraged. Additionally, creative ideas that are inclusive and involve the larger community are welcomed.

Please Note: There will be limited AV support for this convention. Please contact the planner before submitting if you require AV.

Submissions of completed papers should include:

(4) A statement of professional responsibility on the second page (see below).
