Attendance: Victoria Orrego, Benjamin Bates, Nancy Hoar, James Olufowote, Jennifer Barber, Carolyn Anderson, Maria Brann, (+ 3 others who did not sign attendance sheet)
I. Call to Order
A. Meeting called to order at 9:30 a.m. by Victoria Orrego, Chair

II. Approval of 2007 Minutes
- A. Maria Brann moved to accept
- B. Benjamin Bates seconded
- C. Unanimous vote to approve minutes
III. 2008 Update
- A. Paper/Panel Submissions
- 1. 18 papers submitted, 3 panels submitted
- 2. 15 papers accepted, 3 panels accepted
- 3. 7 paneled programs (one co-sponsored w/ rhetoric)
- 4. Electronic submissions successful, plans to continue
- B. Acknowledged Paper Readers

- C. Report from Executive Council (representative Ben Bates)
- 1. New website: syllabi sharing will be available
- 2. No Spotlight programs next year, instead recognizing Centennial Scholars
- 3. New editor was decided for Communication Quarterly, which will be announced at the general business meeting
- 4. No more paper newsletters, instead use e-bulletins
- 5. 2010 conference in Baltimore at Sheraton/Hyatt
- 6. Site visits for future conferences in Boston, Providence, Washington DC, and Arlington, VA
- 7. Jim Chesebro is finishing 100th anniversary volume that will be available for next year's conference for authors' to sign
- 8. Discussed code of ethics
- D. Nominations Committee I & II
- 1. Present chair must attend first meeting, Nominating Committee I (this year on Saturday)
- 2. Incoming chair must attend second meeting, Nominating Committee II (this year on Sunday)
IV. 2008 Top Paper Awards
- A. Top Paper: "Exploring and Exploiting the Informal Curriculum for Informed Consent to Treatment: System Facilitation of the Medical Resident Learning" by James O. Olufowote, Boston College
- B. Top Graduate Student Paper: "Child Obesity and Food Advertising on Children's Television Websites: A Content Analysis" by Cherish Lo, Paul Driscoll, & Michel Dupagne, University of Miami
- C. Top Undergraduate Student Paper: "Nationwide Newspaper Coverage of the Morning-After Pill: A Community Structure Approach" by Vanessa Campana, Amanda Dato, Genevieve Faust, Helena Jablonski, & John Pollock, The College of New Jersey
- D. Announced that top paper panel is today at 12:30 p.m.
