Health Communication Interest Group

EASTERN COMMUNICATION ASSOCIATION
100th Annual Convention
Defining Moments: A Century of Communication

April 22-April 26, 2009
Sheraton Society Hill
Philadelphia, PA

The Health Communication Interest Group is requesting panel and paper submissions for the 100th annual convention of the Eastern Communication Association. The convention's theme, Defining Moments: A Century of Communication, invites the scholarly exploration of significant activities in health communication.

The 2009 convention will include spotlights on scholarship programs, short courses, workshops, roundtable discussions, debates, symposiums, open forums, community programs, and traditional panel formats. For additional information about the convention, please refer to the ECA website at http://www.ecasite.org/.

In order to receive full consideration, all panel proposals and completed papers must be received by October 15, 2008. You WILL receive e-mail confirmation of my receipt of your manuscript.

Health Interest Group panel proposals and completed papers (not to exceed 25 pages including references, tables, etc.) should be submitted via e-mail (hard copies will not be accepted) to the 2009 Interest Group Chair:

Information for submission is below.

Health Communication Interest Group Submission Criteria

Submissions should:

(1) have ALL identifying information removed from the text and the properties - right click on the file, go to properties, then to summary, delete author's name, click on apply

(2) be saved in either a Word document (.doc) or in Rich Text Format (.rtf) - do NOT use the newest version of Word (.docx)

(3) follow APA guidelines

Competitive Paper Submissions should include:

(1)   a separate file with the title page, including the title of the paper, author(s) affiliation, mailing address, telephone number, and e-mail address

(2)   mark "Debut" on the title page if the author has not presented previously at a regional or national convention, and mark "Undergraduate Student" on the title page if the author is an undergraduate or "Graduate Student" if the author is graduate student

(3) if the paper is multi-authored, indicate who will be presenting at the convention on the title page

(4) a separate file containing the manuscript, which should include the title, a one-paragraph abstract (~150 words), and a statement of professional responsibility (see below) on the first page

Program/Panel Proposals should include:

(1) a thematic title for the program
(2) names of chair and respondents, if any
(3) names, mailing addresses, telephone numbers, e-mail addresses, and   institutional affiliation of all participants
(4) title and abstracts for each paper or presentation
(5) program copy (a 75-word description) as it will appear in the final program
(6) a detailed rationale for the program/panel
(7) statement of professional responsibility

STATEMENT OF PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITY
When submitting a paper or panel for review, the following statement MUST be included:

"In submitting the attached paper or proposal, I/we recognize that this submission is considered a professional responsibility. I/we agree to present this panel or paper if it is accepted and programmed. I further recognize that all who attend and present at ECA's annual meeting must register and pay required fees."

**If this statement is not included, your paper/panel will NOT be considered.**

Equipment Requests: Equipment rental at conventions is VERY expensive, and ECA has a limited budget. Please try to structure your presentation in such a way that equipment is not needed. If equipment is absolutely required, you should provide your own equipment. You may request technology needs at the time of the paper/panel submission (list on the title page and reiterate in your e-mail); however, it is unlikely that we will be able to provide it.
