Interpersonal Interest Group 2009 Call for Papers

Interpersonal Interest Group
Eastern Communication Association
100th Annual Meeting
April 22-April 26, 2009
Sheraton Society Hill-Philadelphia, PA

The Interpersonal Communication Interest Group is requesting paper and panel submissions for the 100th annual convention of the Eastern Communication Association. The theme for this convention is Defining Moments: A Century of Communication. The theme for the 2009 convention encourages members to explore the scholars, events, and areas of scholarship that have defined the communication discipline. The 2009 convention will include Centennial Scholar programming, short courses, poster sessions, roundtables, and traditional panel formats. Interpersonal interest group panel proposals and completed papers must be submitted as an email attachment (hard copies will NOT be accepted) by October 15, 2008 to the 2009 Interest Group Planner:

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

All Submissions Must:

1.  have ALL identifying information removed from the text and the properties - right click on the file, go to properties, then to summary, delete author's name, click on apply

2. be saved in either a Word document (.doc) or in Rich Text Format (.rtf)

3. follow APA guidelines

Competitive Completed Papers Should Include:

1. a detachable title page with the title of the paper and the author's affiliation, mailing address, telephone number, and email address

                * If the paper is a multi-authored paper, please indicate who will be presenting at the convention *

2. the word "Debut" marked on all papers written by authors who have not presented previously at a regional or national convention

3. a one-page abstract on the second page

4. a statement of professional responsibility on the second page (see below)

Program/Panel Proposals Should Include:

1.   a thematic title for the program

2.  a program copy (NO MORE than a 75-word description) as it should appear in the final program

3.  a detailed rationale for the program/panel

4.  names of chair and respondents, if any

5.   names, mailing addresses, telephone numbers, email addresses, and institutional affiliations for all participants

6.   title page and abstracts for each paper/presentation

7.    a statement of professional responsibility (see below)

When submitting a paper or panel for review, the following statement of responsibility MUST be included (any paper or panel that does not include this statement will not be considered):

"In submitting the attached paper or proposal, I/We recognize that this submission is considered a professional responsibility. I/We agree to present this panel or paper if it is accepted and programmed. I/We further recognize that all who attend and present at ECA's annual meeting must register and pay required fees."

Equipment Requests: Equipment rental at conventions is VERY expensive, and ECA has a limited budget. Please try to structure your presentation in such a way that equipment is not needed. If equipment is absolutely required, you should provide your own equipment. You may request technology needs at the time of the paper/panel submission (list on the title page and reiterate in your e-mail); however, it is unlikely that we will be able to provide it.
