Call for Papers

Political Communication Interest Group

Eastern Communication Association

Sheraton Society Hill, Philadelphia, PA
April 22-April 26, 2009
"Defining Moments: A Century of Communication"
Submission Deadline: October 15, 2008

The Political Communication Interest Group invites submissions of competitive papers, thematic panel program proposals, and innovative programming alternatives (such as roundtables, symposia, debates, open forums, and community programs) for the 100th annual convention of the Eastern Communication Association.

The 100th annual meeting of the Eastern Communication Association will be held in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania at the Sheraton Society Hill from April 22-26, 2009.  The theme of the convention is "Defining Moments: A Century of Communication."  Recognized as the birthplace of our nation, Philadelphia is a city of many "firsts."  Boasting the oldest theatre in America and the first U.S Mint, Philadelphia is a historical city that has evolved over the years.  The 2009 convention theme, "Defining Moments: A Century of Communication," encourages members to celebrate our roots and reflect on the significant changes that have shaped the current state of the discipline, by exploring those scholars, events, and areas of scholarship that have defined the communication discipline.

The 2009 convention will feature Centennial Scholar programming, short courses, poster sessions, roundtables, and panels.  In addition, the Basic Course Conference will be held on the first day of the convention.  Papers and proposals that address the convention theme are encouraged, but all papers and proposals that address political communication are welcome.

In order to receive full consideration, all program/panel proposals and completed papers must be received by October 15, 2008 (see submission guidelines below).

Political Communication Interest Group submissions should be sent via email (with an attachment in MS Word format) to the 2008 Planner:

Christina M. Knopf
knopfcm@potsdam.edu

General information about the Call for Papers can be found at http://ecasite.org/, but submissions to the Political Communication Interest Group should adhere to the following guidelines:

Program/Panel Proposals

Panel program proposals should focus on a unifying theme relevant to research, theory, or criticism in the area of political communication. In alternative formats, respondents may be included or omitted as appropriate.  These submissions should include:

Statement of Professional Responsibility

When submitting a paper or proposal for review, you MUST include the following statement. If it is not attached to a submitted document, the Program Planner will need to obtain a completed copy of this form before the paper/program/panel is officially programmed for presentation at the conference.

In submitting the attached paper or proposal, I/we recognize that this submission is considered a professional responsibility. I/we agree to present this panel or paper if it is accepted and programmed. I/we further recognize that all who attend and present at ECA's annual meeting must register and pay required fees.

Equipment requests:

Equipment rental at conventions is VERY expensive, and ECA has a limited budget. Please try to structure your presentations in such a way that equipment is not needed. If equipment is absolutely required, you are invited to bring your own equipment if you can manage it.
