Complete Story 06/11/2008Community College IG - 2009 Call for Papers CALL FOR PAPERS Community College Interest Group Eastern Communication Association -- 100th Annual Meeting April 22-April 26, 2009 -- Sheraton Society Hill, Philadelphia, PA The Community College Interest Group is requesting paper and panel submissions for the 100th annual meeting of the Eastern Communication Association. The theme of the convention is Defining Moments: A Century of Communication. For additional information about the convention, please refer to the ECA website at http://www.ecasite.org/. I encourage you to submit your papers, panels and roundtables to me as early as possible (but no later than October 15, 2008). In making your submission, you must use the format described in the guidelines below. At the interest group business meeting in Pittsburgh, we discussed the following panel ideas: - History of community adult education program, the evolution of the community college and how our mission was impacted then and now (contact Gary Eckles, EcklesG@tncc.edu 757.825.3659)
- Debate about public speaking online and its effectiveness, the compromises that we have to make to deliver the course.

- Assessment of online courses
- Unique course offerings and delivery, i.e. paired courses (contact Tom Jewell, TJewell@bergen.edu)
- Changes to community college students. How the nature of the student has changed the way we teach. (contact Anne Sears, asears@northshore.edu)
- Civility in the classroom
- High/low and hidden costs of textbooks, understanding the publishing world.
- Student learning outcomes/assessment

- Finding new faculty and keeping them

A thematic title for the program 2. Names of chair and respondents, if any 3. Names, mailing addresses, telephone numbers, email addresses, and institutional affiliations for all participants 4. Title page and abstracts for each paper/presentation 5. A program copy (NO MORE than a 75-word description) as it should appear in the final program 6. A detailed rationale for the program/panel 7. A statement of professional responsibility (see below) When submitting a paper or panel for review, the following statement of responsibility MUST be included (any paper or panel that does not include this statement will not be considered): In submitting the attached paper or proposal, I/We recognize that this submission is considered a professional responsibility. I/We agree to present this panel or paper if it is accepted and programmed. I/We further recognize that all who attend and present at ECA's annual meeting must register and pay required fees. Equipment Requests: Equipment rental at conventions is VERY expensive, and ECA has a limited budget. Please try to structure your presentation in such a way that equipment is not needed. If equipment is absolutely required, you should try to arrange to provide your own equipment. You may request technology needs at the time of the paper/panel submission (describe the specific equipment on the title page and reiterate in your e-mail); however, there is no guarantee that ECA will be able to provide the technology requested.
