FIRST CALL FOR SHORT COURSE PROPOSALS

EASTERN COMMUNICATION ASSOCIATION
100TH ANNUAL CONVENTION
Defining Moments: A Century of Communication

April 22-26, 2009
Sheraton Society Hill
Philadelphia, PA
Deadline: October 15, 2008

Please consider submitting an innovative and informative short course proposal for this year's exciting convention! Short courses are intended as training or hands-on informational sessions that can be presented in approximately 75 - 90 minutes.  Short course topics may address (a) teaching innovations; (b) areas of research; (c) new theoretical perspectives; (d) application of a body of knowledge; (e) skill development; or other topics of interest to scholars.

Individuals are encouraged to incorporate this year's convention theme "Defining Moments: A Century of Communication" into the design of their course proposals.  Short course leaders are also encouraged to advertise their courses and solicit participation.

Short course proposals should include the following:

  1. Title of the short course;
  2. Names, full addresses, email addresses, and affiliations of all presenters;
  3. 100 - 150 word abstract of the short course (to be placed in the convention program);
  4. A rationale and specific goals for the short course;
  5. An outline and description of short course activities;
  6. The target audience for the short course;
  7. A list of course objectives;
  8. Enrollment cap, if any;
  9. Preparation required by participants, if any;
  10. Equipment requirements (Note: Equipment availability is extremely limited and costly.  As a result, this could play a role when programming decisions are made.  Please see the ECA Policy on the use of Audio-Visual Equipment at conventions)

All short course proposals should be sent via email (as Microsoft Word attachments) to Melissa Bekelja Wanzer at wanzerm@canisius.edu.  The proposal must be received no later than October 15, 2008. If you have any questions about the submission process please contact Melissa Wanzer at wanzerm@canisius.edu or 716-888-2119.
