ECA’s convention theme, “Communication and Power: From Classrooms to Politics,” reflects our convention’s location in the Washington, D.C. area – one of the most powerful cities in the world. Power also resonates throughout the Communication discipline, from the study of influence wielded or lost through politics and within organizations, power attempted through rhetoric and media, and the profound power dynamics within health, intercultural, and instructional communication realms. The notion of power may be approached from the perspective of controlling influence or authority, but it is equally important to examine powerlessness. The convention theme, therefore, invites exploration of the interaction of communication and power (from the empowered to the disempowered) across our discipline.
Papers for the Graduate Poster Session will be accepted from every sub-discipline in the field of communication. Competitive poster presentations involve an author(s) standing next to a physical poster that visually explains the crux of the paper. Convention participants, including judges, read the posters and talk to the authors about their studies. Poster sessions tend to be low key and full of energy. If you have never presented at an academic conference, poster sessions are a less stressful foray into the academic community. You may want to consider making a handout that summarizes your study for people who talk to you during the session.
Submissions of Completed Posters should include several components:
“In submitting the attached paper or proposal, I/We recognize that this submission is considered a professional responsibility. I/We agree to present this panel or paper if it is accepted and programmed. I/We further recognize that all who attend and present at ECA’s annual meeting must register and pay required fees.”
