2009 CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS

The Communication Law and Ethics Interest Group invites submissions for the 100th annual Eastern Communication Association convention to be held in Philadelphia, PA on April 22-26, 2009.  ECA celebrates its 100th anniversary by encouraging its members to reflect on "Defining Moments: A Century of Communication," a theme that encourages members to celebrate our roots and the significant changes that have shaped the current state of the discipline.

Submission Guidelines

To speed both review and planning procedures, only completed papers and program proposals will be accepted.

Paper and panel submissions must be received no later than October 15, 2008. Undergraduate/Graduate student poster submissions must be received no later than December 15, 2008. Submissions of completed papers, panel/program, and poster proposals must be sent electronically as email file attachments in Microsoft Word.

Equipment requests should be kept to an absolute minimum. Please see the ECA Technology Policy at http://www.ecasite.org/pdf/technologypolicy042007.pdf.

Paper Submissions

Paper submissions should include two file attachments:

(1) Attach a file that contains a cover sheet containing the paper's title, names, affiliations, postal and email addresses, numbers for phone and fax for all authors. The "Statement of Professional Responsibility" (see below) should appear on the cover sheet. The word "DEBUT" should be written in the upper right hand corner of the title page written by authors who have not presented previously at any regional or national communication convention.

(2) Attach a separate file that includes a 75-100 word abstract and paper not to exceed 25-doubled spaced pages excluding references and appendixes. Please remove all author identification for the paper.

Panel/Program Proposals

Panel proposals must include: (1) a thematic title for the panel/program, (2) a detailed rationale for the proposed panel (including the expertise of the participants to address the topic of the panel), (3) a "Statement of Professional Responsibility" (see below), (4) a brief title and abstract of each panelist's contribution, (4) a 75-word description of the panel to be included in the final program, and (5) a list of all participants, including their names, institutional affiliations, mailing addresses, telephone and fax numbers, and e-mail addresses.

Innovative formats for panels such as roundtable discussions and workshops are encouraged. Whether innovative or traditional, panels that address the convention theme are especially welcome.

Poster Session Proposals

Proposals for inclusion in a poster session must include: (1) a title for the poster presentation, (2) a 75-100 word abstract and overview of the research not to exceed 5-doubled spaced pages excluding references and appendixes, (3) a "Statement of Professional Responsibility" (see below), (4) name; indicate whether baccalaureate, master's, or doctoral student; institutional affiliation; mailing address; telephone and fax numbers; and e-mail address.

Statement of Professional Responsibility

The following statement MUST be included on the cover sheet when submitting a paper or panel proposal for review.

In submitting the attached paper or proposal, I/we recognize that this submission is considered a professional responsibility. I/we agree to present this paper or program/panel if it is accepted and programmed. I/we further recognize that all who attend and present at ECA's annual meeting must register and pay the required fees.

If the statement is not attached to a submitted document, the chair is responsible for submitting a completed copy of this form prior to the paper/program/panel being officially programmed for presentation at the conference.

If the paper is multi-authored, please indicate which co-author will be presenting at the convention if the paper is accepted.
