INTERPRETATION AND PERFORMANCE STUDIES INTEREST GROUP
104th Annual Eastern Communication Association Convention

The Interpretation and Performance Studies Interest Group invites submissions of competitive papers, thematic program/panel proposals, performances, and innovative programming alternatives (e.g., roundtables, symposia, debates, open forums, and community programs) for the 104th annual convention of the Eastern Communication Association.
In keeping with the 2013 convention theme, “Confluence,” we encourage you to consider papers, thematic panels, performances, and other programs that explore related issues and questions, and how these topics and questions intersect with the critical, performance-based and/or theoretical issues related to our interest group. “Confluence” holds special meaning for interpretation and performance studies, particularly in the convergence of disciplines that the interest group seeks to represent. We welcome submissions of all methodological and contextual approaches.
Submissions to the Interpretation and Performance Studies Interest Group must adhere to the following guidelines:
In order to receive full consideration, all completed papers and program/panel proposals must be received by Monday, October 15, 2012.
Submissions must be sent via email, with attachment(s) in MS Word format, to the Program Planner. The email subject line should include the text “ECA 2013 submission” and the title of the paper/panel/program. The email text should include any request for technology (see below).
All submissions must include a statement of professional responsibility (see below). Please note if the submitted materials (including previous drafts and/or similar versions) have been submitted for publication and/or delivered in the form of another “public presentation.”
Abstracts or incomplete papers are not acceptable in this category. Submissions of completed papers should be sent via two separate Microsoft Word files:
1. The first file should include the title page with author(s)’s name(s) and contact information (affiliation, mailing address, telephone number, and email address), and a 100 - 150 word abstract. If the paper is multi-authored, please indicate who will be presenting at the convention.
2. The second file should contain the text of the paper starting with the 100 - 150 word abstract. All author identifiers should be removed. Excluding notes and references, papers should be no longer than 25 double-spaced pages. Papers longer than 25 pages may not be reviewed. Optional: Authors who have not presented previously at a regional or national convention are welcome to include the word “Debut” in the paper header. Students are welcome to include the word “Student” in the paper header.
All program/panel submissions should be sent as a single Microsoft Word file, and must include:
1. A thematic title for the program/panel.
2. The names, institutional affiliations, mailing addresses, telephone numbers, and email addresses of all participants (including chairs and respondents, if applicable). We request that presenters not serve as chairs, and that chairs not serve as respondents.
3. Titles and 100 – 150 word abstracts for each paper or presentation.
4. The program copy (no more than a 75-word description) as it should appear in the final program.
5. A detailed rationale for the program/panel. If you are submitting a performance panel as a paper session or as a panel discussion, be sure to clearly indicate that the proposed session is 1) all papers, 2) all performance, or 3) a mix of presentational formats.
Statement of Professional Responsibility
When submitting a paper or proposal for review, the following statement MUST be included. Papers and panels without this statement will not be programmed.
“In submitting the attached paper or proposal, I/we recognize that this submission is considered a professional responsibility. I/We agree to present this paper or program/panel if it is accepted and programmed. I/we further recognize that all who attend and present at ECA's annual meeting must register and pay the required fees.”
