ECA 2013 Convention - Call for Participants to the Basic Course Conference

Praxis: Balancing the Basic Course

Call for Participants to the Basic Course Conference

Wednesday, April 24, 2013

As the Basic Course becomes more central to college and university curricula, and as legislative attention makes higher education reform a priority, faculty must balance demands from multiple internal and external stakeholders.  With these sometimes competing demands in mind, the focus of the conference will be:

Praxis: Balancing the Basic Course

Some questions to consider for program submissions include:

  • How do we, as practitioners, balance the various demands of the course?
  • How do we make informed content and competency choices?
  • How do we reflect these content and competency choices in our assessment methods?
  • How do we inform the larger college/university community of what we do and why we do it?

In order to receive consideration, submissions must be received by October 12, 2012. Only electronic submissions will be considered. All attachments must be submitted in .doc or PDF formats.

Send completed papers or detailed abstracts to Danamarie Every Gallagher at dgallagher32@dccc.edu .  Include with your submission, a Statement of Professional Responsibility that reads:

In submitting the attached paper, I/we recognize that this submission is considered a professional responsibility. I/we agree to present this paper if it is accepted. I/we further recognize that all who attend and present at ECA’s annual meeting must register and pay required fees.

Request for Technology

In the interest of preserving available equipment for multimedia sessions, please only request multimedia if you really need it. For instance, if you are presenting a paper containing a few tables of statistics that could be explained without visuals, please do not request AV support. If you are offering a community workshop that requires the viewing of several video clips, please request AV support. All requests for technology must be included in your paper/session proposal and received by October 12, 2012.
