ECA 2013 Convention - Call for Comm Administration panelists

Call for ECA Comm Administration panelists

Tentative Panel Title:

“The Confluence of the Traditional and Professional Approaches to Communication: Profiling Programs That Combine the Best of Both Approaches.”

Panel Description:

Communication programs can follow a traditional speech communication/communication studies approaches or take more professional journalism/media production/advertising-PR-IMC approaches (and perhaps others). Administratively, these programs can be separate and distinct or combined and integrated. The “confluence” and blending of traditional speech communication and more professionally oriented programs presents unique opportunities and challenges for administrators, faculty, and students.

I’d like to propose a panel to the Communication Administration Interest Group for ECA 2013 that gathers 4-6 department chairs of such blended or hybrid majors to provide a brief profile of their program, the challenges they face, and the opportunities they see for their program, faculty, and students. The outcome of the panel, with the participation of audience members, would be a set of best-practices or guidelines for such programs.

If you are interested in this panel and plan to attend ECA 2013 in Pittsburgh, please send a brief description of your program/major and how you propose to address the opportunities and challenges blended programs at your particular location to the address below. Depending on the response, I’ll do my best to craft a diverse and interesting panel. Any questions please contact:
