ECA 2014 Convention
Community College Interest Group Second Call for Submissions

105th Annual Eastern Communication Association Convention

“Communities of Dissent”

April 23-27, 2014
The Omni Hotel
Providence, RI

Submission Deadline: October 15, 2013

The Community College Interest Group invites submissions for the 105th annual convention of the Eastern Communication Association to be held at the Omni Hotel in Providence, RI, April 23-27, 2014. The convention theme is “Communities of Dissent: A “Lively Experiment” in Dialogue, Diversity, and Discourse.” A city built as a haven for religious dissenters, Providence is an ideal place to explore this theme. According to ECA First Vice President, Thomas R. Flynn, our conference hopes to examine “the expression and suppression of dissent across communication contexts—relational, organizational, mediated, social, and political—and the attendant implications for such concerns as relational quality, community identifiers, civic engagement, public dialogue, accountability, and justice.”

Keeping the convention theme of “Communities of Dissent” in mind, please submit your work using the following guidelines:

  • Names of the chair and respondents, if any. Please do not have chairs act as respondents.
  • Names, mailing addresses, telephone numbers, email addresses, and institutional affiliations of all participants
