ECA: Call for Logo Designs

Submissions due Saturday, March 15

Submit to Nicholas.Bowman@mail.wvu.edu

For the 2014 convention – April 23 to 27 in Providence, Rhode Island – the Eastern Communication Association is seeking input from members and friends in an effort to help us with our visual branding. Specifically, in conjunction with the new Facebook home of ECA (https://www.facebook.com/ECACOMM) we are looking to update the organization’s logo, and we are seeking your help!

From now until Saturday, March 15 we are actively seeking logo designs to consider as the organization’s new visual brand. Designs can be submitted to Nicholas.Bowman@mail.wvu.edu. All submitted designs will be blinded and then forwarded to review by an ad hoc committee, which will present its recommendations to the Executive Committee at the 2014 Business Meeting. Should a logo be selected from those submitted, the final logo as well as the logo’s designer will be prominently announced by the organization.

A few guidelines:

  • Vector graphics are the preferred format (.eps or .ai) for logo submissions, but we will also accept .jpg and .pdf
  • The logo should be scalable to fit a number of uses, including Web display, letterhead and large outdoor banners. Square logos are preferred, but other dimensions should be scalable to the dimensions of a 3.5 inch x 5 inch index card.
  • The logo should include a low resolution (72 ppi) and a high resolution (300 ppi) version, as it will be used in both electronic and print formats.
  • If a color logo is submitted (this is not required), a black and white alternative must also be submitted. CMYK is the preferred color setting for any color logos.
  • The logo should reflect not just the alphabetic characters “E”, “C” and “A” but rather, should reflect the organization’s mission statement:

The Eastern Communication Association was initially established in 1910 and continues as the oldest professional communication association in the United States. As a distinguished service-oriented organization with a history of achievement in research, criticism, communication theory, and excellence in teaching, the association welcomes members who share the goals and objectives of a membership dedicated to participation in state, regional, and national activity.

  • For reference, the areas that ECA represents are: Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New York, New Jersey, Delaware, Pennsylvania, Maryland, West Virginia, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico. More information about ECA can be found on the web at www.ecasite.org

For those submitting logos, please adhere to the above guidelines. Designers, please include with your logo submission your full name and contact information (mailing address, e-mail and phone number) as well as a short (between 75 and 100 world) biography. This contest is open to anyone, but the winning logo designer must be willing to transfer the rights of their logo to ECA for official use. There is no prize or payment for the selected logo, but the winning logo (and its designers) will be given full credit; as well, ECA will prominently announce their contribution to the organization.
