ECA 2015 Convention - Communication Law and Ethics - Call for Submissions

Communication Law and Ethics
Call for Papers 2015
106th Annual Eastern Communication Association Convention

106th Annual ECA Convention

Deliberation: Philadelphia

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
April 22-26, 2015
Submission Deadline: Wednesday, October 15, 2014

The Communication Law and Ethics Division of the Eastern Communication Association invites the submission of competitive papers, thematic program/panel proposals, and innovative programming alternatives (e.g., roundtables, symposia, debates, open forums, and community programs) for the ECA's 106th annual convention.

Deliberation is where ideas are shared in groups then debated, advanced, molded, altered, and shaped into the foundation of our democracy. The Eastern Communication Association is the oldest professional communication association in the United States and our convention in 2015 will be held in Philadelphia, a town that dates back to our first public deliberations. We strive in 2015 to honor the spirit of launching forth ideas into a public space for deliberative consideration.

The Communication Law and Ethics division is seeking submissions from a wide range of communication scholars and researchers who all, in some way, examine issues of ethics and/or law within their disciplines. The division welcomes submissions from those who critique, examine, discuss, and/or analyze law and/or ethics in media studies, technology, interpersonal communication, gender studies, critical race theory, rhetoric, cultural studies, feminist theory, and all other areas of scholarly interest and research in communication. The division also welcomes non-academic professionals from a variety of related fields as well as emerging and seasoned scholars outside of communication who have an interest in communication law and/or ethics.

The division is especially interested in discussions and critiques of national and international events that deal specifically with deliberation, debate and politics. Law and ethics are both linked to deliberation. Before laws can be established, there is much deliberation. Today, we are constantly deliberating over the policy direction of our nation and world. Even well established laws that are the roots of our democracy that we now take for granted were once part of a great public deliberation. Furthermore, in deliberation, one must also consider the many ethical issues that arise from the use of persuasion, deceit, or dissent. Needless to say, this year’s theme can give rise to many possible legal and ethical topics that fit within the concept of deliberation.

All submissions must be sent via e-mail, with attachment(s) in MS Word, to the 2015 Program Planner: Jason Zenor, SUNY-Oswego, jason.zenor@oswego.edu
