Physician Based Practice in Kalamazoo Seeking a Full Time Medical Billing Specialist

 

Qualifications:

  • At least three years experience with accounts receivable and billing departments. Knowledge of medical terminology required.
  • CPC certification preferred.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of healthcare reimbursement procedures. ICD-9, CPT, HCPCS coding knowledge required.
  • Working knowledge of managed care, Medicare, BCBS, and third party insurance procedures and guidelines required.
  • Personal computer experience required.
  • Ability to communicate, both oral and written, with staff, patients, and third party payor representatives.
  • Ability to work tactfully and compassionately with terminally ill patients and their families and/or care givers.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize and work independently as well as schedule and produce work in a timely manner; also ability to concentrate and pay close attention to details.

Description:

  • Review and transmit claims electronically, as well as prints and mails paper claims in a timely manner.
  • Identifies and corrects inaccuracies, including coding and demographic errors. 
  • Maintain up to date knowledge and understanding of procedures related to Medicare, Medicaid, BCBS, and third party insurance billing and reimbursement. 
  • Respond promptly and accurately to third party payors’ requests for additional information necessary to process claims.
  • Updates and adjusts patient accounts as necessary.
  • Initiates refunds and overpayments when necessary to patients and insurance companies.
  • Processes and posts patient and insurance company reimbursement payments when necessary.
  • Resolves all issues or discrepancies regarding payments and claim denials in a timely manner.
  • Assists the Billing Manager with special requests as needed.
  • Maintains the confidentiality of all patient, employee, physician, institutional related information. Ensures patients/caregivers are treated with dignity and respect.
  • Maintains a level of productivity that supports quality, efficient, cost effective functioning of WMCC.
  • Willingly participates in the performance improvement process, continually looking for ways to improve the processes, including identifying problems and facilitating solutions identification and implementation.
  • Adheres to the mission, vision, and all policies of WMCC.
  • Perform all other duties as required and assigned.
