Urge Your MI Senator to Help Advance the Cancer Treatment Fairness Act (SB 625)

Michigan Senate Bill 625, bipartisan legislation from Sen. Goeff Hanson that would help lower out-of-pocket prescription drug costs for oral chemotherapy and anticancer drugs, is pending before the Michigan Senate Insurance Committee. MSHO and ASCO urge you to ask your Michigan State Senator to support SB 625. If you live in Committee Chair Sen. Hune’s district, please ask him to schedule a hearing on SB 625 as soon as possible.

BACKGROUND:

Take action to support cancer treatment fairness legislation in Michigan!

While cancer care has advanced, health plans have begun to impose significantly higher cost sharing requirements for oral treatment even when it is the most effective form of medication delivery.  This can increase overall cost of care. 

The Michigan Society of Oncology and Hematology (MSHO) and the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) strongly support bipartisan legislation from Sen. Goeff Hansen, SB 625, which would help cancer patients in Michigan access oral anticancer drugs under the same general cost sharing rules that apply to intravenous and injected anticancer drugs.

Forty states and the District of Columbia have already enacted oral chemotherapy parity laws. Help make Michigan the next state to take this important step.

TAKE ACTION TODAY:

Please reach out to your Michigan State Senator and urge him or her to support SB 625. If you live in Committee Chair Sen. Hune’s district, please ask him to schedule a hearing on SB 625 as soon as possible. Stress the importance of this legislation for all Michigan cancer patients. Patients reliant on life-saving oral anti-cancer therapies cannot wait any further to have this legislation move forward.
