OSHA Releases Anticipated Silica Proposed Rule

On August 23, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) released the long-anticipated proposed rule on respirable crystalline silica exposure. Although staff at NAM is still going through the 757 page rule, they know the rule that preliminarily proposes two separate regulatory texts, one for “general industry and maritime” and the other for “construction,” would cut the permissible exposure limits (PELs) from 100 to 50 micrograms per cubic meter of air over an 8-hour day.  

NAM will provide more information as they learn more about what is in the rule, but in the meantime, OSHA has provided a “general industry and maritime” fact sheet and other general information.
