NAM Provides More Information on OSHA Silica Rule

NAM logoIn September, hoseconnections reported that OSHA had released a proposed silica rule. The National Association of Manufacturers Employment and Labor Subcommittee reports that the U.S. Small Business Administration’s Office of Advocacy sent a letter to OSHA requesting a 90-day extension to the comment period for the silica rule, which is currently scheduled to close on December 11.

The letter also requests the public hearing date be extended by 90 days. As you may be aware, the NAM requested a similar extension earlier this month. This is the first extension request letter coming from another agency within the Administration. By agreeing with the NAM and other business groups that a 90-day extension to the comment period is necessary and warranted, this letter should be evidence that more time is needed for all stakeholders to fully analyze and comment on this complex rule.
