Military/Veterans Reporter & Editor

North Carolina Public Radio-WUNC, the public radio station licensed to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, is hiring a full-time reporter and a full time editor to cover military and veterans issues.

The positions are part of a joint project with KPCC in Los Angeles and KUOW in Seattle to expand public radio reporting on military and veterans issues. The project is funded by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. The project will report on the military and veterans through well researched feature stories, quick turn-around spot news, interviews, reporter debriefs, and online postings. The reporter will be based in Fayetteville, home to Fort Bragg. The editor will be based in WUNC’s Durham newsroom and work with the reporters in Fayetteville, Los Angeles, and Seattle.

The positions require a flexible schedule with occasional weekend work and occasional travel around the state or to the west coast. The positions also require participation in on-air fund drives and station promotional events. They may require some substitute work for other news or talk programs.

The ideal candidate(s) will have a familiarity with military issues and experience working in a public radio newsroom. A Bachelors Degree and at least 3 years of journalism experience is required for the reporter position. A Bachelors Degree and at least 5 years of journalism experience is required for the editor position. Veterans strongly encouraged to apply.
