Fletcher Fellow for Education Policy Reporter

North Carolina Public Radio, WUNC-FM, the public radio station licensed to the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, seeks a full time reporter to cover education policy. This is a two year fellowship in partnership with UNC’s School of Journalism and Mass Communication. The Fletcher Fellow will report quick turn-around spot news, interviews, reporter debriefs, and well researched feature reports. The position will have a concentration on statewide PreK-12 education policy reporting. The position will work out of WUNC’s Legislative Bureau in Raleigh when the State Legislature is in session. The Fletcher Fellow will be supervised by the WUNC News Director. S/he will have a close relationship with faculty advisors in the UNC-Chapel Hill School of Journalism and Mass Communication, one of the most highly regarded schools of journalism in the United States. The position requires a flexible schedule with occasional weekend work and occasional travel around the state. The position also requires participation in on-air fund drives, station promotional events and staff meetings. WUNC is headquartered in central North Carolina, consistently rated among the top areas to live in the country. The ocean and mountains are just a few hours away. North Carolina Public Radio reaches 350,000 listeners weekly and consistently has among the highest shares and ratings among all public radio stations in the country. Qualifications: Master’s Degree from the UNC-Chapel Hill School of Journalism and Mass Communications or Bachelor’s Degree with one year relevant experience. Experience with standard recording, editing and broadcast equipment is required. Public radio experience preferred. Based on funder requirements, please note this fellowship is restricted to UNC Chapel-Hill journalism alumni.
