North Carolina Open Government Coalition

Director (Part-Time)

The North Carolina Open Government Coalition invites applications for a part-time Director for the coalition and its Sunshine Center housed in the School of Communications at Elon University. The position also offers the possibility of a half-time teaching position, as described below. These combined positions would yield a full-time position with benefits.

Key responsibilities include working with the NCOGC Board to plan the state’s annual Sunshine Day, organizing workshops and creating webinars on open meetings and open records laws, responding to citizen queries via email and the center’s hotline, conducting the annual membership drive and fundraising efforts, representing the coalition in media interviews, and working with the Board on strategic planning in the effort to inform North Carolina citizens about open government laws and the value of government transparency in a democracy. The Director will be the primary manager of the Center’s legal and fiscal affairs. The Director reports to the Executive Director of the Coalition and its Sunshine Center, a full-time faculty member in the School of Communications.

The successful candidate will have at least a bachelor’s degree (J.D. desirable), significant experience in journalism or communications, and a working knowledge of North Carolina state laws regarding open government. To learn more, visit www.ncopengov.org.

Based on qualifications, the part-time Director also could teach up to three courses a year in the School of Communications, making this a yearly contract position with university benefits.
