GREENSBORO – In an effort to give North Carolinians a full and fair opportunity to understand the differences between her record and Speaker Thom Tillis’, Kay has accepted an offer to debate from the North Carolina Association of Broadcasters Educational Foundation. In 2008, Kay’s opponent was unwilling to debate, which Kay felt was a disservice to voters who deserve an honest, open discussion on the issues that matter. As she accepted the offer today, she expressed her hope for a public debate schedule and a civil exchange of ideas.

In a letter to Speaker Tillis, Kay urges him to accept the debate and lays out a process for coordinating logistics on this and other debates through her appointed debate liaison, Jim Phillips. Phillips served in a similar position to negotiate debate terms on behalf of Erskine Bowles.

In the letter, Kay writes:

“I know I am not alone in expressing my hope that this election will be one marked by a civil exchange of ideas. Spirited public debates are an important opportunity to promote that exchange and provide voters a chance to understand the stark contrast before them this year. The people of North Carolina deserve no less.” For a full copy of the letter, please click here.
