NCCTA Awards Annual Partners Award
The Winner Is - Time Warner Cable, Charlotte!
There is no bigger event for the Democratic Party than its National Convention. Charlotte, North Carolina was thrust into the global spotlight when it was chosen as the host city for the 2012 Democratic National Convention (DNC) at Time Warner Cable Arena. TWC has more than 7,000 employees and 2.1 million customers in the Carolinas. Charlotte is also home to TWC’s largest corporate campus. This was an opportunity to show employees, local customers and visitors from across the world that TWC is committed to the success of the communities it serves.
TWC provided extensive technology infrastructure for the DNC, making sure all areas of Uptown Charlotte received technology upgrades, including Time Warner Cable Arena, Convention Headquarters, and Bank of America Stadium.
As part of Convention activities, TWC announced the launch of TWC WiFi, making its network and WiFi available to all residents, businesses, and visitors during the DNC. TWC WiFi access was available free of charge in Uptown Charlotte and inside Time Warner Cable Arena from August 27 through September 7, 2012. The announcement of 90 hotspots across the Uptown area was made with TWC leaders, Charlotte Mayor Anthony Foxx, and NC Speaker of the House Thom Tillis. Both Mayor Fox and Speaker Tillis applauded TWC for its long-term investment in Charlotte.
TWC was also the Premier Sponsor of the Media Welcome Event. More than 15,000 members of the media were invited to this kick-off event in an effort to expose journalists to all that Charlotte and North Carolina have to offer.
TWC made investments topping $2 million that had implications lasting far beyond the DNC. Time Warner Cable’s involvement in the Democratic National Convention serves as an example to cable providers across the state. They met the diverse set of requirements identified by the DNCC and proved that cable telecommunication companies have the ability to provide the critical technological infrastructure necessary to ensure the success of the Convention and similar events. Additionally, the upgraded infrastructure provides ongoing support to the city of Charlotte.
