Brian M. Montalvo, M.S., Ed.S., NCC, MCC has worked in higher education since 2000, and in career services since 2004. He joined the Career Center at Florida Atlantic University (FAU) in July 2006. Brian currently serves as the Senior Director of Career Advising, Counseling & Education. In this role he oversees the development, assessment, operational infrastructure and daily delivery of career counseling and career advising services through FAU’s university-wide centralized career services office. This includes leading a team of very talented full-time career counseling professionals, graduate assistant career advisors, practicum students from the mental health counseling program, a program assistant and undergraduate peer advisors who orchestrate the career exploration needs over 30,000 FAU students.
 
In addition to working in career services, Brian has taught in the areas of Career Development at both the graduate and undergraduate level. He has published national and international articles and essays on a wide range of career development topics. Brian is also a regular presenter at the local, state and national conferences.
 
Brian is actively committed to the career counseling profession through his involvement with the National Career Development Association (NCDA) and Florida Association of Colleges & Employers (Florida ACE). He was honored with a selection into NCDA Leadership Academy, class of 2013.
 
In recent years he was nominated for Leader of Leaders Award (honorable mention) for the Division of Student Affairs; a Florida State University Distinguished Alumni Award (nominee); was the receipt of the Karl F. Ijamas Humanitarian Award for the Division of Student Affairs; as well as a Herbert Rand Fellow in recognition of outstanding service and scholarships in the field of career development.
Brian earned an Ed.S. in Counseling and Human Systems with a concentration in Career Counseling, an M.S. in Counseling and Human Systems with a concentration in Career Counseling and a B.S. in Psychology; all from Florida State University (FSU). In graduate school he studied directly under Drs. Janet Lenz, Bob Reardon, Jim Sampson and Gary Peterson. He is a National Certified Counselor (#214457) and designated as a Master Career Counselor (MCC).


Brian lives in South Florida. He and his wife have two amazingly exuberant children.
