BRIEF BIOGRAPHY: Cynthia Marco Scanlon
Dr. Cynthia Marco Scanlon has been passionately involved in the career development field for over 25 years in numerous capacities. She is currently the Assistant Director for the Center for Career Services at John Carroll University in University Heights, OH., and teaches counseling courses at the graduate level at JCU and Youngstown State University.
In the career counseling field, Cynthia has held many roles. She has taught at the graduate level (Counselor Education), supervised graduate interns through their career counseling practicum and internships, coordinating and teaching Career Education classes for undergraduates, is a career and personal issues counselor, was a consultant with her local school district, and counseled for many years at the local Community Mental Health Center. She is a guest lecturer at regional and national workshops and conferences.
As a member of NCDA for over twenty years, Cynthia is excited for her role as Secretary and serving on the NCDA Executive Board. She recently completed the GCDF training with other members of her office. Dr. Scanlon has served in many roles with her state organization, the Ohio Career Development Association.
Dr. Scanlon received her Ph.D. at The University of Akron (UA) in Counselor Education, and her Master’s in Community Counseling from UA also. Her undergraduate degrees in psychology and sociology were completed at Ohio Northern University. She is a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor with the Supervision designation (LPCC-S) through the State of Ohio. In 2011, she was awarded “Outstanding Career Practitioner Award” from NCDA, and “Supervisor of the Year” by OACES, and in 2012, OCDA’s “Leadership Award” at their spring conference.
