Agricultural Conservation Specialist

The Licking County Soil & Water Conservation District - Licking County, Ohio

The Licking County Soil & Water Conservation District is seeking a full time Agricultural Conservation Specialist.

The successful candidate will coordinate and provide technical assistance for agricultural conservation practices under NRCS (Natural Resources Conservation Service) guidelines. Responsibilities include maintaining inventory and evaluation of agricultural sites to create conservation plans; survey for, and design engineering plans related to agricultural conservation; provide construction assistance and oversight to landowners and contractors; facilitate and deliver education programs related to agricultural conservation and provide technical assistance for urban conservation. Individual will be responsible for earning and maintaining appropriate training and certifications related to agricultural conservation such as, but not limited to NRCS Job Approval Authority, Comprehensive Nutrient Management Plan Certification and Conservation Planner Certification. Possessing and maintaining a working knowledge of current local, state and federal policies, and best practices is critical to the role and is also essential to overseeing and implementing other mission-based initiatives.

Required Qualifications:

  • Graduate of an accredited college or university with an Associates or Bachelor's Degree (preferably in engineering, natural resources management or related field); or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Willingness to perform a combination of technical office and outdoor field work, present education programs, and provide information to customers.
  • Ability to carry and transport resource materials and equipment.
  • Demonstration of computer literacy and writing skills.
  • Proof of valid Ohio driver’s license and insurable.
  • Ability to pass and Licking County pre-employment drug screening and Federal background security check.
  • Familiarity with agricultural and urban development Best Management Practices.
  • Ability to traverse terrain in an outdoor environment.
