General Manager

Lewis and Clark Terminal – Lewiston, Idaho

Lewis and Clark terminal is a Barge Grain Shipping Partnership with three cooperative owner members located in Lewiston, Idaho. Lewis and Clark Terminal annual grain handle is 20/25 million bushels. This position will require a thorough understanding of grain storage, blending, and handling. This is primarily a grain barge facility with three locations shipping on the Snake and Columbia River systems. This position requires an understanding of accounting, finance/budgeting, planning, business process controls, good communication, supervisory, public relations and organizational skills. Preferred candidates will have a strong grain background. The successful candidate will work extensively with a three person board. The ideal candidate must be able to make decisions and work independently and manage the staff. The candidate must be detail oriented with excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage the operation of the entire business according to Lewis and Clark Terminal's objectives to provide patrons with prompt, courteous and effective service while maintaining the efficiency necessary to achieve a return on investment.
  • Establish and implement a program of safety and equipment maintenance to avoid breakdowns and limit safety hazards.
  • Monitor the daily long/short position for commodities to effectively manage inventory risk.
  • Educate both employees and members in the operations of the business objectives to enhance employee effectiveness and improve relations.
  • Establish and implement short-term goals that are consistent with long-range plans for growth in operation, including facility, equipment and personnel.
  • Communicate with members to coordinate and complete all aspects of the consolidated operation.
  • Communicate with the Board of Directors of Lewis and Clark Terminal.
  • Keep abreast of industry trends or changes to accurately answer member inquiries.
  • Manage Lewis and Clark Terminal workforce (10 Full time plus seasonal) through responsible training and clear job assignment definition and explanation, including organizational chart, job descriptions, and regular employee reviews (annual).
  • Monitor the work of all employees to correct deficient performance and effectively reward and develop all employees.
  • Oversee the information provided for month-end close, inventory valuation, bringing contracts to market, physical, inventory, etc.
  • Properly document daily and month end accounting transactions.
  • Involvement with the waterways group concerning the Snake River dredging project is an expectation of the board.

Basic preferred Qualifications: 2 or 4 year degree in Agriculture or Business Management General Manager or supervisory experience.
