General Manager of Transport - Logistics and Supply Chain Management

CHS Member Cooperative in North-Central Wisconsin

CHS Aligned Solutions is assisting a Transportation Co-op to hire a new General Manager to oversee the cooperative-owned company. The Transport General Manager will be responsible for leading a large fleet of transportation equipment headquartered out of north-central Wisconsin near the town of Medford, WI. This is located between Wausau and Eau Claire. 

Company Details: The transport co-op is a company owned by 8 Wisconsin Cooperatives, serving both agricultural products for the cooperatives as well as other materials. 

  • 25 truck fleet with 42 trailers with most of the service work done in house
  • 2 locations, 25 full time employees and 3 part-time employees – 1 full time mechanic with most service work done in-house
  • Hauls propane, fuel, feed, fertilizer, groceries and other materials in Wisconsin, Upper Peninsula, and Minnesota.
  • The company is divided into 4 divisions including:
    • Refrigerated Freight
    • Hazmat (all fuel and LP)
    • Feed (including dry bulk and augers, liquid whey, molasses and liquid fertilizer)
    • Bagged product in vans, delivered to farms, stores, bulk plants and stations

General Manager Responsibilities:

Work environment will be mostly from inside the office, but also include in the shop, out in the yards and insides of the trucks and trailers. 

  • Maintain all records and prepare reports for the board at bimonthly board meetings and for the yearly Audit for the Annual meeting
  • Daily pricing of loads, daily dispatching and pricing of freight
  • Complete HR functions relating to hiring and discipline
  • Daily contact with the drivers and employees to keep them informed and up to date with all laws and compliance to maintain a safe and profitable business
  • Responsible for breakdowns on the road for all divisions to get the repair of that unit done to get the product hauled in and on time basis
  • Maintaining all driver files relating to DOT compliance, hazmat compliance and OSHA regulations as well as DOT files on vehicle maintenance and repairs
  • Keep records on as well as scheduling repairs to fleet, building and grounds, maintenance and keep adequate repair parts on hand
  • Responsible for coordinating annual Hazmat tank trailers and pressure tank inspection
  • Responsible for new vehicle ordering, specking and sales on used equipment no longer needed in inventory
  • Maintain customer contact with the owners (8 Coops) and their department manages to make sure all of their needs are met now and in the future as well as with outside customers that help to support the business for profit and growth

Qualifications:

  • Must have 5+ previous experience in the logistics field in dispatching, management and/or managing logistics experience
  • We are looking for a growth-minded individual person with dynamic communication and leadership skills, and outstanding financial skills
  • You should possess a CDL license with Hazmat or be able to obtain one
