Soil Health Operations Manager

Soil Health Partnership - NCGA in Mid-West United States

Position Purpose: 

The Soil Health Operations Manager will provide internal support to the Soil Health Partnership Director and leadership to the Soil Health Partnership Team (SHP Field Managers, SHP Communications Manager and SHP Program Coordinator). This position will partner with the Soil Health Partnership team to manage and maintain knowledge to connect and improve internal SHP operational efficiency, research and communications strategies, and information to increase the effectiveness of the program across relevant agricultural and non-agricultural networks in the program.

Specific Role Responsibilities

  • Provides leadership to the SHP Field Team to implement the logistical strategy involved with Soil Health Partnership field-based applied research program
  • Coordinates with SHP Field Team in the collection and management of all SHP data collection efforts (including georeferenced soil sampling, georeferenced harvest yield, economic data information, and Field to Market data input) from the Soil Health Partnership Farm Network farmers
  • Coordinates with SHP Field Team and SHP Science Advisory Committee to manage program data collection, analytics, and publications strategies.
  • Organizes and delivers of training materials and coaching for Soil Health Partnership Field Managers and SHP Network farmers
  • Networks and coordinates with regionally relevant agricultural and non-agricultural groups to enhance collective efforts and project synergies to improve soil health

Required Skills/Experience:

  • Education and/or experience equivalent to a Ph.D. Degree in Agronomy, Soil Science, Plant Pathology, Horticulture or related discipline with a minimum of 5 years of work experience in an agronomic related field OR a Master of Science Degree in Agronomy, Soil Science, Plant Pathology, Horticulture or related discipline with 10 years of experience may be substituted for Ph.D. Degree.
  • Experience in leading regional teams across diverse geographies
  • Strong knowledge base in soil physical, chemical and biological interactions.
  • Experience in precision agricultural data management, statistical analytic methods and precision agricultural data management software programs (Ag Leader SMS)
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, manage, analyze and publish results from on-farm research trials
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Willingness to travel extensively within the regional territory, with occasional national travel.
