Heritage Cooperative Celebrates Grand Opening of Marysville Agriculture Campus

Heritage Cooperative demonstrated its commitment to Central Ohio’s agricultural community as it hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony and open house event for Marysville community members at the new agriculture campus, located just south of Route 33 on Scottslawn Road.

The $35 million project significantly expands Heritage Cooperative’s service capacity to its members in the Marysville area. Among the project’s most important elements includes an express unit train grain terminal; a 30,000-ton dry fertilizer warehouse; and a 10,000-ton liquid UAN (nitrogen fertilizer) storage with 24/7 distribution.

The dry fertilizer building, which is about the same size as a football field, can load out 185 tons per hour so that trucks can be turned at a rapid pace to keep equipment operating efficiently. The liquid fertilizer tank, which holds the equivalent of three Olympic-sized pools, stores enough to fertilize 40,000 acres of corn. The grain elevator currently holds 1.5 million bushels and Heritage is in the process of adding an additional 1.7 million bushels of grain storage. A research farm is also being developed on the site and will include agronomic and seed test plots, as well as a conservation demonstration and educational site.

“Ohio has a thriving agricultural industry that depends on continually embracing innovative solutions that improve efficiency,” said Eric Parthemore, president and CEO of Heritage Cooperative. “I am pleased that our new ag campus provides a cost-effective way for the farming community to do business, saving time, money and resources; while at the same time recognizing our social and community responsibilities.”

The ag campus, which began operating in January, includes one of only two loop tracks in Ohio.  This allows trains to make an entire circuit along the two-mile track to load and unload grain, and agronomy inputs while providing capacity for other future opportunities.  The loop track design improves worker safety while maintaining rail traffic flow on the main CSX track.
