Gov. Kasich Signs Bill to Require CPR Training in Schools
Ohio ACEP-supported legislation requires hands-only CPR instruction for students
Ohio ACEP is pleased to report that House Bill 113 has been signed into law by Gov. John Kasich. The bill, introduced by Reps. Cheryl Grossman (R – Grove City) and Nathan Manning (R – North Ridgeville), would mandate 30 minutes of hands-only CPR training sometime before graduating high school. 27 states currently have similar laws on the books.
An Ohio ACEP member, Dr. Warren Yamarick, who is also an American Heart Association Columbus Board Member, urged the AHA to reach out to Ohio ACEP for its support. After discussing the legislation with representatives of the AHA, Ohio ACEP leaders agreed that the bill could improve outcomes and were happy to support the legislation.
