Board of Directors and Councillor Candidates
THREE Board members will be elected by the chapter membership for three year terms at the 2013 annual meeting. More information about the elections and the candidates can be found here.
Current Board members with expiring terms are eligible for re-nomination and re-election. Those with terms expiring are: Purva Grover, MD (Akron); Thomas W. Lukens, MD, FACEP (Lakewood); and Thomas A. Tallman, DO, FACEP (Shaker Heights). All three incumbent candidates have indicated their interest in being candidates for the 2013 election to the Board. Nominations will also be taken from the floor at the Annual Meeting, June 4, 2013, 12:00 pm.
Purva Grover, MD (Akron)
Dr. Grover currently serves as Assistant Professor at NEOMED and faculty at Akron Children’s Hospital. She has been a longstanding Ohio ACEP member and has served on the Board and as a Councillor. As a graduate of the Leadership Development Academy at Ohio ACEP, she has continued to assist the chapter’s educational programs. Dr. Grover gained knowledge and purpose in this experience that will enhance her abilities to serve the chapter as a Board member. As a Pediatric Emergency Medicine physician, she understands the unique aspects of pediatric care and represents that niche. As a physician leader and ACEP champion for National Pediatric Readiness Project, she will be helping the nation and community by quality improvement to ensure that EDs are ready to care for children.
As Medical Director of the suture and wound care program, she has propelled research and innovative improvements for patient care. Besides authoring multiple articles in renowned peer reviewed journals, she has been a guest speaker at local, national and international venues.
Dr. Grover is honored to work among residents, and fellows and believes that this is a critical time in forming the future of the profession and specialty. She wishes to apply her enthusiasm, motivation and leadership skills to continue to serve on the Ohio ACEP Board of Directors.
Thomas W. Lukens, MD, FACEP (Lakewood)
An ACEP member since 1984, Dr. Lukens has served the Ohio Chapter as a Board member since 1997. An established leader at the national level, including service on several ACEP committees and as a councillor from Ohio, Dr. Lukens is also well-published in the area of clinical policies. An active leader for Ohio ACEP, Dr. Lukens gives his time to the advancement, review and betterment of the educational activities of the Chapter through service on the Education Committee and as a Course Director for the Oral Board Review Course and the LLSA Fast Track. Dr. Lukens’ continuing service to the Chapter was recognized in 2008 with the Bill Hall Award for service to the Chapter, as the member who best reflects the emergency physician character of Dr. William Hall, such as selfless giving of time and enthusiasm for patient care. Dr. Lukens served as the Chapter President 2011-2012 and hopes to continue service to the Chapter through another three-year term as a member of the Board.
Thomas A. Tallman, DO, FACEP (Shaker Heights)
Dr. Tallman has served as an Ohio ACEP Board member and Councilor for seven years. Currently, Co-Chair of our chapter’s EMS and Disaster Preparedness Committee, Dr. Tallman was also awarded the Bill Hall Award for Service to Ohio ACEP in 2011. He recently received radiation injury treatment certification from the Radiation Emergency Access Center and Training Services (REAC/TS). Dr. Tallman has served as an Oral Board Examiner for the American Board of Emergency Medicine (ABEM) since 2002.
His over 25 years of Emergency Medicine experience include leadership roles in EMS, Disaster Preparedness, Event Medicine, Hospital Rapid Response and medical school/residency training. A Navy-trained ED physician, Dr. Tallman has also trained at the Center for Domestic Preparedness (Homeland Security) and is an Ohio Hospital Association Certified Hospital Emergency Provider (CHEP). Two years ago, he was a part of the ODE/ODH Team that developed the Medical Coordination Plan for the State of Ohio. Responding to personal challenges, Dr. Tallman has recently become a passionate advocate for spinal cord injury treatment, therapy and recovery. He currently is piloting a program in the ED to have Physical Therapists available to assess acute musculoskeletal pain with therapy, rather than narcotics.
Dr. Tallman welcomes the opportunity to continue service to the chapter as a member of the Board of Directors.
Councillors
Ohio Chapter ACEP has been allotted 13 Councillors for the October 2013 Council meeting in Seattle. The Council is a deliberative body that meets once a year for two days in conjunction with the College’s annual Scientific Assembly. The Council votes on resolutions which may be introduced by any member (as long as there are at least two people who co-sign the introduction of the resolution). The Council is also the body that votes on proposed changes to the Bylaws. Whether it is a resolution or a Bylaws amendment, actions of the Council are also voted on by the Board of Directors (Board)
SEVEN Ohio Chapter Council seats are up for election at the Ohio Chapter ACEP Annual Meeting. Nominations will also be taken from the floor at the Annual Meeting, June 4, 2013, 12:00 pm.
Declared incumbent candidates for Councillor are: Eileen F. Baker, MD, FACEP (Bowling Green); Thomas E. Carter, DO, FACEP (Portsmouth); Gary R. Katz, MD, FACEP (Dublin); Catherine Marco, MD, FACEP (Toledo); Daniel R. Martin, MD, FACEP (Westerville); Michael Smith, MD, FACEP (Brecksville). Saurin Bhatt, MD, MBA, FACEP is a new candidate for Councillor.
