Clinical Coordinator for Operations - PA Program

Job Description The Clinical Coordinator for Operations (CCO) of the Division of Physician Assistant Studies (PAS) is responsible for development, implementation, maintenance, and retention of clinical sites for PA student clinical education; scheduling student clinical placements; evaluating clinical preceptors and clinical sites; and participating in call-back activities. The Clinical Coordinator for Operations works with the PAS Division Director, Medical Director, Academic Coordinator, Clinical Coordinator for Evaluation, Clinical Education Team, and the South Carolina Area Health Education Consortium (AHEC) to ensure the excellence of the clinical educational experience. Other responsibilities include instruction in the didactic year, student advisement and mentoring, program and college committee service, community service, and scholarship. The faculty member may also engage in clinical practice as a part of assigned duties. Additional Duties and Responsibilities 1.) Provide operational oversight for the day-to-day operation of the clinical phase of the PAS curriculum. a.) Identify, establish, recruit, and maintain qualified community physicians, physician assistants or nurse practitioners to serve as clinical preceptors for PA student clinical education; b.) Assure that clinical education sites provide the physical, interprofessional, and educational experiences necessary to meet Program clinical educational goals as defined by the ARC-PA; c.) Educate preceptors to the appropriate clinical rotation learning objectives and the methods of student evaluation; d.) Serve as the principal liaison between PAS and Area Health Education Consortium (AHEC); e.) In conjunction with individual students, AHEC representatives and the Department of Health Professions Clinical Education Team, make timely clinical education assignments to PAS students throughout the clinical phase of education, continuously assess and monitor quality of clinical sites, and maintain the clinical year schedule; f.) In conjunction with the Clinical Coordinator for Evaluation, update the Clinical Year Student Handbook for clarity and appropriateness to the PAS vision, mission, values, and learning goals as well as preceptorship policies and procedures; g.) In conjunction with the Clinical Coordinator for Evaluation, provide appropriate clinical education orientation to students. h.) In conjunction with the Clinical Coordinator for Evaluation, plan and execute clinical year call-backs. 2.) Serve as a member of the Clinical Curriculum Committee. 3.) Support the Program Director in assuring that all graduation requirements are met. Job Requirements Education, training, experience: Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities 1. Must have a minimum of a masters degree in Physician Assistant Studies or a related discipline; 2. Must be a PA-C with a minimum of 3 years practice experience, preferably in a primary care discipline; 3. Must possess strong organizational, interpersonal communication, and marketing skills; 4. Must have a strong commitment to achieve the mission of the PAS Division, the College of Health Professions, and the Medical University of South Carolina. 5. Prior experience in a clinical coordinator role for an accredited PA program, or as PA program faculty member, is highly desired.
